Tuesday Tips and Techniques: Create an Illusion of Depth in Your Water

A great tip from Andy Evansen in his video, “Secrets of Painting Watercolor Outdoors” this week.

If you want to create the illusion of depth in your water, there’s a really simple technique in watercolor (and really any medium.) Just darken the water as you work down your page and closer to you.

Darker objects seem to appear closer and lighter objects seem farther away. By darkening the water the closer it is to the viewer, you’ll create a sense of depth in your painting.
